Paradigm's Soundtrack System wins "Best of 2013" Award from Home Theater Review

"Form factor is more and more of an issue with today's flat HDTV installations, which is why Paradigm cooked up the slick Soundtrack soundbar. Take the sound quality you expect from a pair of Paradigm Atoms, add in a wireless subwoofer, and make the speakers as flat as your TV, and you can see where this system fits into the marketplace."

Paradigm's Soundtrack System makes Digital Trends 2013 Holiday Gift Guide

It's the most wonderful time of the year - Digital Trends just released there 2013 Holiday Gift Guide. "Our editors have combed the wide world of technology, hardware, and gadgetry to identify the very best gift ideas of this holiday season."

With categories ranging from tablets to home theater, Digital Trends picked out the very best of 2013.
"Sure, tech gifts are arguably the best kind, but if you don’t eat, sleep, live and breathe consumer electronics for a living (like we do), picking the best of the bunch is downright impossible. That’s why each year we take a look back and recall all the very best stuff in several categories, then compile it into one sanity-saving list. This one covers everything home theater and then some."

And speaking of the Digital Trends Home Theater Gift Guide, we were delighted to learn that our very own Soundtrack System earned one of the spots in this category.

"If we were stranded on a desert island and could only pick one sound bar system, this would be it."

"If the low-profile allure of a slim sound bar is on order, then you might as well get one that sounds dangerously close to a full-sized hi-fi system. The Paradigm Sountrack sound bar with wireless subwoofer is that system. It will blow you away with its deep, rich sound, intelligible dialog reproduction and tight, visceral bass. The wireless subwoofer is slim enough to place anywhere, and the sound bar’s easy connection to an Apple Airport Express brings wireless functionality to the party. If we were to get stranded on a desert island and could only pick one sound bar system, this would be it."

"...The Paradigm Soundtrack System is both a steal and a top performer" - HomeTheaterReview.com

"I was impressed right out of the gate with the Paradigm Soundtrack System"
Jerry Del Colliano of HomeTheaterReview.com, recently moved and in doing so, wanted to pimp out the audio in his bedroom. As a Paradigm Signature fan boy, he asked if he could test out our Soundtrack System 2.1 powered soundbar and wireless subwoofer and of course we said yes. Below is a summary of his experience...

"Even with high expectations and tastes acclimated to the best Paradigm has to offer, I must say that I was impressed right out of the gate with the Paradigm Soundtrack System. It's not finished in glossy piano black or blinged out with fancy mounting hardware, but sonically it fits right in with the pleasing, dynamic and accurate Paradigm sound. "

"it is just too good to take off my wall"
"Let's put it this way: you would have to be deaf to think that TV speakers are okay when comparing the possible sound quality that you can get with the Paradigm Soundtrack System soundbar. In listening to traditional two-channel music through the Apple TV, the most noticeable effect you get is that 'Paradigm Sound,' which I was scared might have been lost in such a cost-effective, mass-market product."

"I was impressed with the richness of Alex Lifeson's guitar tone, as it sounded warm, coherent and full in ways that I simply hadn't heard from a soundbar - even the ones costing $2,000-plus."

"The space of the soundstage was notably wide when listening to the impeccably recorded "Deacon Blues" from Steely Dan's Aja. The jazz-like shuffle allowed you a good chance to hear the details of the snare drum being stroked. The Chicago-like horns sounded layered and full."

"One refreshing element of the 2.1 Paradigm Soundtrack System is that it never gets too harsh, even when you are pushing it. In the opening scene of The Dark Knight on Blu-ray (Warner Bros.), the crash of the Joker's school bus into the bank was both bombastic and resolute, even at high levels..."

Soundtrack System earns 4.5 stars from HTR
"I've loved the time that I spent with my Paradigm Soundtrack System...  The Paradigm Soundtrack System can hang - not just on your wall, but performance-wise, with soundbar/sub combos costing well more than twice the price."

"And isn't that the Paradigm model - to deliver twice the performance for half the price and watch the consumers spend their money. Coming from someone who's owned the top speakers that Paradigm makes, I can say that the Paradigm Soundtrack System is both a steal and a top performer. I can also tell you that I am cutting the check to own the sucker, as it is just too good to take off of my wall, even if I had over $1,000 more to invest."

"The Paradigm H15NC simply rock." - Secrets of Home Theater & High Fidelity

Stephen Hornbrook of Secrets of Home Theater & High Fidelity recently reviewed the Paradigm SHIFT
sereis H15NC noise-cancelling on-ear headphones and had a rockin' noise-free blast. Here is a summary of his thoughts...

Comfort
"Comfort-wise, I felt the Paradigm H15NC's will appeal to most head sizes and ear shapes. I found the memory foam padding to be quite comfortable and eased some of the discomfort I often find with on-ear (as opposed to around-ear) designs."

Noise-Cancellation
"My office has a rather noisy HVAC system with a vent directly above my workstation that puts out a constant hum. Your brain is smart enough to realize the sound isn't fluctuating and so you tend to forget it's there, that is until you take it away. After fitting the H15NC comfortably over my ears, I noticed some isolation from the office clatter and didn't really think about the HVAC hum, but when I flipped on the active noise cancellation, that nasty hum revealed itself as it disappeared. Without that low frequency hum the music came through much clearer, and a tiny bit louder in part to the small amp built in for noise cancellation."

"Whenever I listened to these headphones in the office, switching the noise cancellation on was a must. I could still hear that people were talking, or cars honking down on the street, but those noises did not pollute the music like the constant drone of the air conditioning system. Removing that from the mix made for a less fatiguing experience. I can only imagine how much they would help on a plane."

Listening
"Tracks like "The Fling" are meant to be in your face and melded well with the H15NC. The more delicate tracks such as "The Scent of Love" still felt romantic and the sound from the Paradigm H15NC drew me directly into the haunting theme."

"Moving into mainstream music, I found the H15NC to perform with excellence. Their increased bass output along with a softer high-end compliment the mixing style of most popular music... With clean lyrics and a strong bass line, Jay-Z's latest album Magna Carta sounded superb on the H15NC. 2 Chainz and Wiz Khalifia's "We Own It" bumps with deep bass and lyrics that are crisp but never harsh or fatiguing. Hip hop tracks really shine with the Paradigm H15NC headphones."

"I think Paradigm is definitely targeting a wider user base than that of the picky audiophile the H15NC headphones are clearly designed with that in mind. If you take a look at the charts for July 2013, at the top are Robin Thicke, Miley Cyrus, Jay Z, Imagine Dragons, and Makelmore & Ryan Lewis. These are not what I would consider "audiophile mixes", yet they sounded great on the Paradigm H15NC. For listening to Pop, Rap, and R&B, if you have a $300 budget and want active noise cancellation, then the Paradigm H15NC simply rock. Don't need the active noise cancellation? Then save a hundred dollars and pick up the Paradigm H15 which are essentially the same as the H15NC, sans noise cancellation."

"...simplicity and flexibility in a good sounding soundbar system" - Secrets of Home Theater on Paradigm's Soundtrack System

Upon the product's release, Jim Milton of Secrets of Home Theater and High Fidelity was very interested in the Soundtrack System, so we sent one over for him to test drive. And after reading his recently published review, we are delighted that we did! Read the review and we think you'll agree. Below we have gathered some of Jim's thoughts...

"Paradigm has been making their own speakers for over 30 years and has garnered multiple awards for speaker design and sound quality. When a company with this type of reputation makes a soundbar system, you as a consumer have certain expectations that need to be met... So what does Paradigm, a major award winning Canadian speaker company, offer to this fast growing market segment?"

Quality Packaging & Easy Setup
"My review sample arrived with very high quality packaging and after several minutes of carefully unpacking things, I had it set up in about 15 minutes. The instructions are easy to follow and since there are not a lot of
accessories to mess with, I think the average person would have the system up and running without difficulty.

"I used the learning remote feature and was able to control all of these features with my Samsung TV remote. The learning process was very quick and easy and makes life easier for you and the others that access your TV."

"The sub can be configured with wires if you so choose, but the wireless option provided the most flexibility for placement. All of this and the amplifier fit inside a nicely shaped ABS molded enclosure that mimics the shape and style of the soundbar."

"Wireless connection is achieved by holding down a button on the back of the sub and waiting for a blue light to appear. Once connected, you normally never have to repeat the process again... The sub, as a whole, is quite compact and can easily be placed just about anywhere in your room that meets your needs."

Sounds Like & Soundstage
"An ideal soundbar should be able to engross you in the action on the screen by providing good dynamic range (crystal clear highs and thunderous bass) and perhaps more importantly, intelligible dialog. I am happy to say that the Soundtrack System does these two things very well."

"Streaming most of my TV watching from Netflix and Hulu Plus, I can say that the overall presentation was very good and having a single digital cable from the TV to the soundbar made for a fool-proof set up process."

"Moving on to music, with a wire Bluetooth dongle, the Soundtrack can stream music from you iPhone. This makes the Paradigm a good choice (over the ZVOX) for those of you that want to listen, and not watch your favorite entertainment. Music sounded very good, especially acoustic instruments and female singers."

"The Paradigm sounded great with both classical and rock music. Stereo separation was very reasonable for a bar that only has several inches between the R/L channels. I liked that the Soundtrack does not offer any enhanced "surround" features like most other soundbars. Frankly, it just didn't need them. It was able to cast a wide soundstage all on its own without any manipulating.Volume wise, it could blow you out of the room before any distortion and straining takes place."

Conclusion
"I liked the Soundtrack System. It falls in between what I would call the mid-price range for what soundbars are currently selling for. It provides better bass than most entry level systems offer while delivering ample volume and clarity for movies and TV viewing.... It has multiple mounting and placement options coupled with a sleek, well finished design that will look good in most room decors."

"The Paradigm Soundtrack delivers in those two areas that I find to be most important: clear dialog reproduction and broad dynamic range. If you are looking for simplicity and flexibility in a good sounding soundbar system, the Soundtrack may well be what you are looking for. "Good sound" always sounds good to me."

Millenia CT named "Best Overall Desktop Speakers" from Gear Patrol

In a recent Buyer's Guide, Gear Patrol named the "10 Best Desktop Speakers" and our very own Millenia CT was named "Best Overall Desktop Speakers"!

"Best Overall Desktop Speakers: The Canadian loudspeaker manufacturer has left the audio industry and tech experts in awe over its latest 2.1-channel, satellite/subwoofer system, which creates a self-powered sound staple capable of outperforming a majority of the top-rated sound bars on the scene. Each speaker dons one 1-inch high frequency driver and one 4-inch bass/mid-range driver, producing the audio trifecta of incredible lows, mids, and highs. The accompanying sub has its own volume control, granting listeners the power to take in easy listening sessions or rattle their living room with ear-piercing bass response. A deep and extensive soundstage only adds to its premium performance, bringing acoustics and instrumentals to life with sharp and detailed output. A speaker system this sonically powerful and pleasing deserves top billing."

"The A2s are the little speakers that not only could but do" - Marc Mickelson, The Audio Beat

"...amazingly potent and at the same time refined..."
Marc Mickelson of The Audio Beat was simply chuffed with his review pair of Paradigm SHIFT A2 powered speakers. Now that his review has been published,  we are the ones who are simply chuffed! If you're in the market for powered speakers, we highly recommend you give his review a read. Need to be enticed? Here are some of the memorable quotes...

"...the A2s simply don't sound like the small speakers they are. They project sound into the listening space like a pair of bigger, more robust speakers, even like a pair of small floorstanders. This alone will impress some listeners -- they present an aural-visual illusion as the music projects out of their small cabinets. However, it's the quality of that sound, not just its stature, that makes the A2s truly special little speakers."

"With the A2s, however, I had a different goal: to hear how big these little speakers could sound, including down into the bass, which should be a true weakness... but the A2s more than ably captured the low-end grunt... which is so vital to the song's brooding character."

"Ask the A2s to belt out a cut that has real force behind it, and they will certainly try -- and they may surprise with what they accomplish. This happened to me more than a few times.

"...the A2s proved they could not only cast an impressively larger-than-expected soundstage, they were tonally convincing while doing it. They had a measure of fullness in the midrange and sounded more solid than airy into the treble, achieving a sense of balance that is so often the domain of much more expensive speakers."

"...at normal and even loud levels, the A2s sound amazingly potent and at the same time refined, disappearing like small speakers can yet sounding like more than the small speakers they are."

"...good-looking, well-designed..."
"...when in the future you decide to upgrade (as we all do), you'll have a speaker that's easy to repurpose. For the heck of it, I did just that for some 2.0 home theater and the improvement over the TV's speakers was -- no surprise -- remarkable. So when you're seemingly done with the A2s in your audio system, they won't be ready for the garage sale..."

"For their sub-$600 price, you get a good-looking, well-designed pair of speakers that requires nothing more than a source with volume control, be that a computer, TV, gaming system, or iPod. But if your goals are more sonically ambitious, the A2s can take their place within an audiophile-approved two-channel system with equal assurance, sounding more robust, more balanced, and more extended down low than their physical size or price would suggest.

" 'For the Way You Play' indeed. The A2s are the little speakers that not only could but do.

Digital Trends gives Paradigm's Soundtrack System Editors' Choice award and a 4.5 Star Review!

When we introduced the Soundtrack System, Paradigm's first powered soundbar and wireless subwoofer combo, Digital Trends was eager to get their hands on a system for review. We gladly accepted and sent a system off to Ryan Waniata who had this to say...

"We’ve all heard the saying: If something is worth doing, you might as well do it right. Paradigm seems to agree. The family-owned company is meticulous in its speaker design, using high-end materials and committing long hours to R&D before it lets its speakers see the light of day. So when we heard Paradigm had recently turned its focus to the highly-competitive game of sound bars, we took notice."

"A real taste of high-end in a pint-sized package"

"The sound bar is loaded with mouth-watering components like mineral-filled polypropylene cones and satin-anodized aluminum tweeters. And it’s paired with an aluminum 8-inch subwoofer with class D amplification for 300 watts of peak power. Boom. After cruising the test track at Paradigm’s manufacturing facilities (which include a 36,000 cubic-foot anechoic chamber), this tandem team has finally been deemed ready for duty. But tech aside, just how well does a sound bar have to perform to make it worth eight of your hard earned Benjamins? We took the system on a rollercoaster ride of audio auditions (and emotions) to find out."

"One of the best compact speaker systems we've come across"

Movies & Media Performance
"From the moment we began using the Soundtrack as our TV’s primary sound system, we were treated to rich, clear audio, bursting with detail and riddled with the subtle nuances that draw the user in and enrich the experience... the system created a gorgeous balance between its strong command of the delicate intricacies of speech and sound effects, and a potent, musical force in the heavier moments of action that made everything we played more vibrant and realistic."

Fanfare of Midrange Power
"The sound bar created a fanfare of midrange power, pushing the stereo boundaries of its cabinet to fill our entire room. Jet and helicopter fly-bys cast poignant sweeps through the stereo image, and we even enjoyed some pleasant moments of sound jumping clear off the front wall, catching the sides of the room."

Sub-Beauty
"The subwoofer is a thing of beauty in itself, and we loved the exposed driver at the back... the subwoofer showed a brilliant command of the low end, blending seamlessly into the lower mids with barrels of warmth and offering some titanic blasts from explosions as well."

"We can't think of a better addition to your home theater"

Music Performance
"The Soundtrack also doubles as a serious machine for engulfing yourself in your favorite tunes. We tested the Soundtrack over several genres from our music library and its penchant for detail, dynamic response, power, and clarity made it one of the best compact speaker systems we’ve come across."

Ear-Crushing Electronica
"We started with some electronica and hip-hop, which quaked with thick waves of sound, while the upper register struck with pinpoint accuracy. Pushing the system to ear-crushing levels, we heard no distortion."

Acoustic Breath
"Auditioning some of our favorite acoustic tracks from Mumford and Sons and Elliott Smith, guitars were offered with fine, pointed attacks that carved out glinted edges to the melodies. Vocals had a dry and present response, with the same breathy definition we’d heard in dialogue from movies and TV."

Vibrant Rock
"Moving on to classic rock, we were treated to ornate percussion, with ride and crash cymbals ringing tangibly close, washed in a draught of tape saturation. Paul Simon’s “Late in the Evening” offered plucky pops from woodblocks that jumped right out at us like a 3D effect, while the horns were sweet, stinging, and vibrant."

Paradigm's Soundtrack is a no-brainer.
Conclusion
"The Paradigm Soundtrack’s fine detail, warm and powerful low end, and dynamic stereo image combine for a suite of sonic brilliance that far exceeds its sound bar status. Aside from pony-ing up for a full blown hi-fi surround system, we can’t think of a better addition to your home theater. And the system’s elegant and convenient design should be a welcome in any room, regardless of the size. If you’re looking for a real taste of hi-fi sound in a pint-sized package and you’ve got the cash, Paradigm’s Soundtrack is a no-brainer."

We're delighted to hear that Digital Trends not only loved the Soundtrack System, but that it earned Digital Trends prestigious "Editors' Choice" award and a rating of 4.5 stars!!!

4 Stars and a Stellar Review for the Paradigm SHIFT H15 On-Ear Headphones from Digital Trends!

At CES this past January, Digital Trends visited our booth and were seriously interested in the Paradigm SHIFT H15 and H15NC on-ear headphones. So when the first H15 headphones became available, we sent a pair over to the Digital Trends team to evaluate. Tech writer, Ryan Waniata conquered the review and below is a summary of his findings...

"The family-run company has a 30-year track record in speaker design. Unlike many of its competitors, it manufactures its products at its own facility in Ontario, Canada – and we never take a company with a 36,000 cubic ft. anechoic chamber lightly. With that in mind, we recently sat down with the H15 noise-isolating headphones to see what Paradigm’s audio engineering experience resulted in. Here’s what happened."

"The H15 is a very light pair of headphones - barely noticeable when worn."

"Paradigm’s newest addition to its headphone line follows the minimalist/executive design trend we’ve seen in similarly priced on-ear headsets... The H15’s succinct headband is soft to the touch, and carries a thick cushion along its underbelly, covered in smooth leatherette."

"... comfortable listening for hours at a time."
"The H15 is a very light pair of headphones – barely noticeable when worn. The silky padding that adorns both the headband and the earpieces is exorbitantly thick, and the angled earpieces seem to rest perfectly against the outer ear, allowing comfortable listening for hours at a time."

"We found the H15 delivered a pleasant,“warm and fuzzy” sound signature, notable for its velvety low end, and soft, sculpted upper register... we think many listeners will enjoy its comfortable, relaxed approach to music reproduction, especially with so many competing headsets taking such an aggressive sonic stance these days."

"...velvety low end, and soft, sculpted upper register"
"While breezing through our music collection, the H15’s soft touch immediately drew our ears to the lower register, which was full and well defined. The brassy color of the bass was readily displayed in everything from thick kick drums and bass guitar, to reedy sax and electric guitar. The rich tones were enticing, and seemed to layer our ears in a pillowy glow."

"As we listened on, we noticed the rich character of the bass carried over into the H15’s midrange response as well. Acoustic guitars tended to have a golden sheen that carried some pleasant body, and piano was often creamy and smooth throughout its range."

"If a warm, ruddy sound signature is your bag, the H15 are definitely worth a listen."

"The H15’s smooth sound and ample noise isolation are encapsulated in an attractive, comfortable design... we think many listeners will find Paradigm’s H15 to be a worthy vessel in which to become comfortably engulfed in music. If a warm, ruddy sound signature is your bag, the H15 are definitely worth a listen."
